Golden Bears Roar Back, Punch Ticket Back to the Final Four For a quarter and a half, it looked like Canton might be headed for an early summer vacation. Then the Golden Bears remembered who they are. Facing a three-goal deficit against Schuylerville in the Class D Regional Final, Canton stormed back with a dominant second-half performance to earn a 9-6 victory and another trip to the New York State Final Four. The win sends the Bears back to the state semifinals and keeps alive another championship dream for one of Section X's premier programs. The opening quarter belonged entirely to defense. Neither team could find the back of the net as both sides traded possessions and settled into the intensity of a winner-take-all regional final. When the scoring finally arrived, it came from Schuylerville. The Horses struck three times to open a 3-0 lead and suddenly had Canton searching for answers. That's when Saige Blevins provided one. The Canton star ripped home a sidewinder to get the Bears on the board and inject some life into the offense. Schuylerville answered almost immediately when Avery Cumm powered through traffic and scored to restore the three-goal advantage. But Blevins wasn't finished. Not even close. After being knocked to the ground, she still managed to finish a goal, then followed it up with another score over the top to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Bears entered halftime trailing by two goals but carrying all the momentum. That momentum exploded in the third quarter. Schuylerville opened the half with a goal to make it 6-3, but from that point forward it became the Canton show. Blevins found Olivia Francey in the middle for a goal. Moments later, Madison Ayrassian spun free and buried another. Suddenly it was 6-5. Then came the equalizer. Francey threaded a pass to Elena Abplanalp, who finished in front to knot the game at 6-6 and complete the comeback. The Bears weren't satisfied with tying it. They wanted control. Ayrassian connected with Francey to give Canton its first lead of the afternoon, and the Golden Bears never looked back. Blevins continued her brilliant performance by feeding Francey once again, this time finding her isolated in front of the cage for another score and an 8-6 Canton advantage. By then, Schuylerville was reeling. The final exclamation point came courtesy of Delia Gaurin. Whether it was a pass, a shot, or a little bit of both may forever remain a mystery, but the ball bounced into the net and the Canton sideline erupted. Just like that, the comeback was complete. The Bears had turned a three-goal deficit into a three-goal victory. Blevins orchestrated the rally with a spectacular all-around performance, while Francey repeatedly delivered in the biggest moments. Ayrassian and Abplanalp added crucial goals as Canton showcased the balanced attack that has made them one of the most dangerous teams remaining in the state tournament. The final horn sounded with Canton on top 9-6. One comeback. One regional championship. One more trip to the Final Four. The Golden Bears are headed back to the state semifinals, and if Saturday proved anything, it's this: Never count out a team that wears the bear on its chest.
