If the Section X Class D Championship is looking for drama, history suggests it may have found it. Hermon-DeKalb punched its ticket to the title game in convincing fashion Tuesday, overwhelming Morristown 13-4 in the semifinals and setting up a highly anticipated championship showdown with Harrisville. The matchup carries plenty of intrigue. Harrisville won both regular-season meetings between the two teams, claiming victories of 7-3 and 7-6. Both contests were competitive, hard-fought battles, leaving little doubt that Thursday's championship game could be another classic. Before turning their attention to the Pirates, however, the Green Demons took care of business in dominant fashion against Morristown. Hermon-DeKalb found itself locked in a tight battle early, holding a slim 2-1 advantage before its offense erupted. The Green Demons broke the game open with a five-run second inning, turning a close contest into a commanding lead. They followed with three more runs in the third inning and never looked back, steadily adding to their advantage while keeping the Green Rockets from mounting a comeback. By the middle innings, Hermon-DeKalb had seized complete control. The offensive attack was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Ella Sharpe sparked the Green Demons with two hits and three runs scored, consistently finding her way on base and creating scoring opportunities. Payton Dusharm also played a major role in the victory, crossing the plate three times as Hermon-DeKalb's offense continued to apply pressure inning after inning. Morristown battled throughout the game and received a strong performance from Aria Simons, who collected two hits and scored a run, but the Green Rockets were unable to slow the relentless Hermon-DeKalb attack. The 13-4 victory continues what has been an impressive stretch of softball for the Green Demons, who enter the championship game playing some of their best ball of the season. Now comes the ultimate test. Standing between Hermon-DeKalb and a sectional championship is a Harrisville squad that has already defeated the Green Demons twice this year. The Pirates showed their resilience in a thrilling semifinal comeback against Heuvelton, erasing a late deficit before storming into the title game. With Harrisville seeking another win in the season series and Hermon-DeKalb looking for revenge with a championship on the line, all signs point toward a memorable Class D Final. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at St. Lawrence University, where two of the North Country's hottest teams will battle for the Section X Class D crown.
