Raiders' Historic Run Ends Against State Powerhouse The scoreboard may have said defeat. The season says something entirely different. Massena's remarkable run came to an end Saturday afternoon as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated the Raiders 18-10 in the Class C Regional Final, ending one of the most memorable lacrosse seasons in recent program history. The Spartans entered the matchup as one of the state's premier programs and showed why, but Massena never stopped fighting. That's been the story of these Raiders all season. Every time adversity showed up, they answered. Every time expectations were questioned, they exceeded them. And every time somebody counted them out, they found another reason to believe. Saturday was no different. Despite facing one of the strongest teams remaining in Class C, the Raiders continued to battle, continued to attack, and continued to play the style of lacrosse that carried them to a Section X championship and a regional final appearance. The final margin may not reflect the heart shown by Massena throughout the afternoon, but anyone who watched this team all season knows exactly what they accomplished. This wasn't supposed to be easy. State tournament games never are. Especially when you're facing programs that have become regular visitors to June lacrosse. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake advanced to the state semifinals with the victory, but the Raiders leave with something no final score can erase. A championship banner. A regional appearance. A season that gave Massena fans countless memories. The Raiders represented Section X on one of the biggest stages in New York high school lacrosse and proved once again that North Country teams belong in these conversations. Long after the final horn is forgotten, this group will be remembered for what it accomplished together. The bus rides. The comeback wins. The playoff atmosphere. The Section X title. The opportunity to play for a spot in the Final Four. That's the stuff that builds a program. Massena's season may have ended Saturday afternoon, but the foundation this team built will carry forward. And if this spring taught us anything, it's that Raider lacrosse isn't going anywhere. The journey ended one game short of the Final Four. But what a journey it was.
