It wasn’t pretty weather in Harrisville… but it was a pretty entertaining softball game. Game Recap: Heuvelton vs. Harrisville Heuvelton came out swinging and wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. They were aggressive at the plate and capitalized on early opportunities to put Harrisville on their heels. But Harrisville didn’t blink. They chipped away inning by inning, grinding out at-bats and finding ways on base until they clawed all the way back to tie things up at 4-4. Just as the game was hitting its stride… the skies opened up. And not a light drizzle either, this was full-on why are we still playing rain. That’s where things got wild. Heuvelton took advantage of the chaos. Between free passes and a few tough defensive breaks for Harrisville in the slick conditions, Heuvelton pushed across a big inning, roughly five runs, to grab control of the game again. But again… Harrisville refused to go away. In the bottom of the 6th, they battled right back, tying the game once more and setting up a dramatic final inning. Cold, wet, and probably questioning their life choices at that point… both teams kept battling. Top of the 7th, Heuvelton got the spark they needed. A couple of timely hits to start the inning led to two crucial runs, putting them back on top heading into the final half inning. Harrisville had their shot. Top of the order coming up, a chance to tie or even walk it off. But Heuvelton’s defense held firm. The first two batters popped up to third base, quick outs that took the air out of the rally. Harrisville managed to get a couple runners on after that, but couldn’t deliver the big hit they needed. Ballgame. Final Thoughts: This one had a little bit of everything, early offense, comebacks, clutch hits, and a rainstorm that made things messy in a hurry. Both teams showed toughness battling through the cold and wet conditions, and both pitching staffs kept their teams in it when things got chaotic. Not the kind of game you’d frame for perfect conditions… but definitely one you remember for the fight.
