Dominant. That's the simplest way to describe Canton's performance in the Section X Class B Softball Championship. Behind a no-hit masterpiece from Elle White and an explosive offensive attack, the Golden Bears rolled past Norwood-Norfolk 11-0 to capture the Class B title and continue what has been an impressive postseason run. Canton wasted little time establishing control. The Golden Bears broke through in the opening inning when White lined a single up the middle, bringing home Tessa Alguire for the game's first run. Moments later, White took advantage of a wild pitch and raced home to double the lead, giving Canton an early 2-0 advantage. Norwood-Norfolk threatened to answer in the bottom half when Claire Shoen advanced all the way to third base following a passed ball. The Flyers appeared poised to cut into the deficit, but White and the Canton defense slammed the door shut, stranding the runner and preserving the lead. That sequence proved to be one of the turning points of the championship game. The Bears continued to apply pressure offensively, adding to their lead behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. One of the biggest moments came when Jenna Larrabee launched a deep sacrifice fly to right field. Both Alguire and White tagged and scored, showcasing the aggressive style of play that kept Norwood-Norfolk on its heels all afternoon. As the offense piled on runs, White continued to dominate in the circle. The Canton ace was nearly untouchable, throwing a no-hitter while striking out eight and issuing just one walk. Every time the Flyers attempted to build momentum, White responded with another clutch pitch, another strikeout, or another routine out. Her performance was championship-caliber in every sense. Alguire paced the Bears' offense with a tremendous day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a single, a walk, and an RBI. White helped her own cause offensively as well, reaching base multiple times while recording a triple, a single, a hit-by-pitch, and an RBI. By the final out, the celebration was on for the Golden Bears. The 11-0 victory secured the Section X Class B Championship and further cemented Canton as one of the area's top teams heading into state competition. While Canton claimed the sectional crown, Norwood-Norfolk's season is not over. The Flyers earned an at-large berth into the state tournament and will have an opportunity to continue their impressive campaign on the statewide stage. For one afternoon, however, the spotlight belonged to the Golden Bears. A championship trophy, a no-hitter from their ace, and a complete team performance made for a memorable day in Canton softball history.
