The offense came in waves, the sticks stayed hot, and by the final whistle, Potsdam Sandstoners had punched their ticket to the Section X Class D championship in emphatic fashion. Potsdam rolled past Salmon River Shamrocks 19-8 in a high-octane semifinal loaded with highlight-reel goals, pinpoint passing, and enough snipes to make every goalie in attendance consider a career change. The Sandstoners’ attack was relentless from the opening faceoff. Drew Aiken set the tone early, feeding Cam Fuller for a filthy sidewinder finish as Potsdam stretched the lead to 10-5. Fuller buried three goals on the night, but he was far from alone in the scoring parade. Then came the Graham Shelly show. Shelly was everywhere — dodging defenders, threading passes through traffic, and lighting up the scoreboard with four goals and three assists. One of his prettiest setups came when he found Owen Ames cutting into space for the Sandstoners’ 11th goal. Ames finished with a hat trick of his own. And just when Salmon River looked ready to settle things down, Finn Murray unleashed a worm burner that skipped past the goalie and into the back of the net. Murray was electric all game long, pouring in five goals to lead the Potsdam attack. To their credit, the Shamrocks kept battling. Jordan Francis connected with Terrance King to stop the bleeding for a moment, and Romanus Pace attacked the cage fearlessly before tickling twine with a strong finish. Brogan Lazore also ripped home two goals, including a laser shot low that gave the crowd something to roar about. But every time Salmon River tried to claw back into the game, Potsdam answered with another strike, another assist, another dagger. Now the Sandstoners turn their attention to their biggest test yet: a showdown with Ogdensburg Blue Devils in the Section X Class D championship game Friday at 5:00 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam. If this semifinal was any indication, fans may want to arrive early… because Potsdam’s offense is playing like a team that has absolutely no interest in slowing down.
