One inning was all Heuvelton needed to turn a close semifinal into a rout. Locked in a tight battle with Chateaugay and holding a narrow 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the third inning, the Bulldogs unleashed one of the most explosive offensive innings of the Section X postseason, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 12 runs on their way to a dominant 14-1 victory in the Class D semifinals. The win sends Heuvelton into the Section X Class D Championship Game, where the Bulldogs will face Parishville-Hopkinton with a sectional title on the line. For the first two innings, the semifinal looked like it might become a tense, low-scoring battle. Chateaugay stayed within striking distance and trailed by just a single run as the game entered the third inning. Then everything changed. Heuvelton erupted in the bottom of the third, combining patience at the plate, aggressive baserunning, timely hitting, and relentless pressure on the Chateaugay defense. The Bulldogs capitalized on four Chateaugay errors during the frame and refused to let the visitors escape the inning. One run quickly became three. Three became six. Before long, the Bulldogs had completely blown the game open. By the time the dust settled, Heuvelton had pushed 12 runs across the plate and transformed a 2-1 contest into a commanding 14-1 advantage. The offensive explosion was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Jude Spooner and Cody Thiveriege led the charge, each collecting two hits while scoring three runs. Time and again, the duo found themselves on base and eventually crossing home plate as the Bulldogs continued to pile on runs. The outburst showcased the depth that has made Heuvelton one of the most dangerous teams in Class D this season. Nearly every batter who stepped to the plate contributed to the decisive inning, leaving Chateaugay with few answers. To their credit, the Bulldogs never let up after gaining the lead, pairing their offensive performance with strong defense and pitching to keep the game firmly under control. For Chateaugay, Leonard and Carter each crossed the plate for the team's lone runs as the Bulldogs' pitching staff limited scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon. When the final out was recorded, Heuvelton had secured a convincing 14-1 victory and earned its spot in the sectional championship game. Now the Bulldogs turn their attention to Parishville-Hopkinton in what promises to be a highly anticipated Class D Final. With a sectional championship on the line and both teams playing some of their best baseball of the season, the stage is set for a North Country showdown. If Heuvelton can carry the momentum from its explosive semifinal performance into the championship game, the Bulldogs will be a difficult team to stop.
