Lumberjacks' Dream Season Ends, Legacy Doesn't The final score will show Ticonderoga 12, Tupper Lake 3. But anybody who followed the Lumberjacks this spring knows the story was much bigger than one game. Tupper Lake's outstanding season came to an end Friday night at St. Lawrence University as the Sentinels punched their ticket to the NYSPHSAA Class C Final Four. Standing in the middle of it all was Ticonderoga ace Jackson Dorsett. The Sentinels star put together one of those performances coaches dream about and opponents hope never to see. Dorsett struck out 10, threw a complete game, and somehow found time to go 5-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs, a double, and a triple. When one player is involved in nearly everything, it becomes a difficult mountain to climb. Ticonderoga wasted little time grabbing control. The Sentinels pushed across three runs in the first inning and followed with three more in the second, quickly building a 6-0 advantage and forcing Tupper Lake to play catch-up. To the Lumberjacks' credit, they never stopped competing. That's been the identity of this group all season. No panic. No quit. No excuses. Tupper Lake battled throughout the game and collected seven hits against one of the top pitchers remaining in Class C. Knaullyn Durfee delivered a double, Charlie Skiff added a double of his own, and Colton Benware tripled as the Lumberjacks continued to swing the bats despite the early deficit. The offense managed to scratch across runs in the second, fifth, and seventh innings, refusing to let the game slip away quietly. Unfortunately for Tupper Lake, every time they found a little momentum, Ticonderoga seemed to have an answer. The Sentinels added two runs in the fourth, another in the fifth, and three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. While Dorsett's monster day will grab the headlines, Ticonderoga's supporting cast played its part as well. Rowen Bechtold, Skyler Frasier, and Brady Mydlarz all contributed multiple hits as the Sentinels piled up 14 hits on the afternoon. For Tupper Lake, the loss marks the end of a memorable postseason run that brought the community together and gave Lumberjack fans plenty to celebrate. Only one team gets to finish its season with a trophy in hand. That reality doesn't diminish what this group accomplished. Regional finalists. One of the final teams standing in Class C. Representatives of Section X on the state stage. That's a season most programs would gladly sign up for every year. The scoreboard may have belonged to Ticonderoga. But the spring belonged to a Tupper Lake team that reminded everyone why baseball matters so much in small towns. The bus rides. The packed stands. The postseason excitement. The belief that maybe, just maybe, this could be the year. Those memories don't disappear with the final out. And if the Lumberjacks continue building on what they accomplished this season, there may be plenty more June baseball waiting in the years ahead.
