Golden Bears Lead Early, Jugglers Rally Late to Advance For four innings, Canton looked poised to keep its postseason run rolling. Then the fifth inning arrived, and so did the Notre Dame bats. Trailing 2-0 entering the top of the fifth, the Jugglers erupted for five runs and never looked back, defeating Canton 7-2 in the Class B State Subregional on Thursday at St. Lawrence University. The Golden Bears controlled the early portion of the game, holding Notre Dame scoreless through four innings and carrying a two-run advantage into the decisive fifth. But playoff baseball has a funny way of changing in a hurry. Notre Dame sent ten batters to the plate in the fifth inning, turning a two-run deficit into a three-run lead in the span of a few minutes. The Jugglers capitalized on timely hitting and continued pressure, seizing momentum they would never surrender. Jamison Young played a major role in the comeback, collecting a single and a triple while driving in two runs and scoring another. Thomas Carville added a hit and two RBIs, while Joshua Caruso chipped in a hit, a run scored, and an RBI. The offense wasn't carried by one player alone. Daniel Williams and Michael Fitzgerald each contributed two hits and scored a run, while James Synakowski crossed the plate twice as the Jugglers pieced together a complete offensive effort. Once Notre Dame grabbed the lead, Owen Bougourd took care of the rest. The right-hander went the distance, scattering five hits while allowing just one earned run. Bougourd struck out five and kept Canton from finding the big inning it needed to answer the fifth-inning surge. Notre Dame added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to create some breathing room before recording the final three outs. For Canton, the loss closes the book on another strong season that included a Section X championship and a trip to the state tournament. The Golden Bears once again proved they belonged among the North Country's elite programs and battled toe-to-toe with a battle-tested Notre Dame squad for much of the afternoon. But on this day, one inning made all the difference. The Golden Bears held the lead for four innings. The Jugglers needed just one to change the entire story. Notre Dame improves to 12-12 and advances to Saturday's regional matchup against Taconic Hills at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam.
